Ministry of Finance of Somali Government proposed a meeting with general directors of finance department of federal state in Nairobi. This four days meeting will be discussed on the easiest ways to get a common procedure and national understanding to collect taxes in the country. The board will focus on evaluating differences in taxes and the effect it might have on the economy of the country and the people.

Farhan Ali Mohamud, the Coordinator of this board briefed the press and told that this conference followed many other meetings in the past years which was discussed on the issue of finding common tax collection from the revenue sources of the country such as the seaports, airports, and other generation sources, and finding one common law throughout the country.

Osman Buh Ali, the Director of the Puntland seaports, who is also one of the board members that attended the meeting, talked to the media and explained the importance of this issue is to enhance the economy and the businesses of the country. “If this tax law is passed and implemented throughout the country, this will also improve the unity and economy of the country.” Osman said.

Abdi Aziz Mohamed Hussein, the Director of the Budget Department of Galmadug State, told the media that business between the Somali people is free from warring politics, but finding one common law will strength the existed business relationship.

Abukar Sheikh is a head of customs in Adan Ade International Airport in Mogadishu said if common law of tax implements through the country it will encourage connectivity, immigration movement and income of the country.

This four days meeting brings together the finance officers from Jubbaland, South West, Galmudug, Puntland and Federal Government to discuss tax legislation and strategies to represent the needs of Somali people. Also there are foreign experts who give technical support to augment the tax law.
